The Distrito Federal of Mexico, a sprawling mass of modern buildings crawling with 18 million people (more than most of the rest of Mexico combined, I’m told), a city built on a lake, sinking a few centimeters a year. The city gives the distinct impression of having been layed down at random, as and when needed; nothing leads anywhere—the unbearably overcrowded metro that typically requires at least 3 line changes, the highway, and the buses—, but eventually you somehow get where you’re going, more through strength of will than any sense of urban planning.
Oh, but the culture.
