While a number of more extensive academic posts languish as drafts during these midterm weeks, Digital Overtone turns 3 today, which is worth celebrating, if only with a small post noting the fact before climbing into bed with my current read. Happy birthday!

Feb 22nd 2007 Preliminary considerations on writing about literature

Writing about literature presents something of a thorny problem for creating dialogue on a site like this, where the majority of readers will be unfamiliar with the texts I hope to deal with, in a way that film, music and non-fiction are unproblematic. The solution requires either unreasonable effort on the part of the reader (to read the texts), synthesis on the part of the author (to provide all the details necessary without overwhelming), or mutual understanding on the part of both.

Feb 20th 2007 Rebirth

I have decided to attempt to resurrect Digital Overtone, with a professional content management system and a design that is (mostly) not mine, in order to be more able to focus on *writing*. And while I hope to continue to use the site for personal notes, the main focus will be shifting from the personal to the (more) professional, including book, film and music reviews as well as thoughts and questions related to my studies.
